Top Tips For Treating Your Kitty Like The Royalty She Is

Squarepegs Handyman Tips For Treating Kitty Like Royalty

So your cat thinks it rules the world? Well, they do and it’s your job to treat them as such!

We've collected our top ten tips to make your kitty feel like the royalty they truly are inside. If you follow these tips, we’re sure your kitty will love you fur-ever.

10 TIPS TO PAMPER YOUR FUR BABY

REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURE TO SUIT THEIR LIFESTYLE

Some cats love to explore, others love a cosy place to sleep. Whatever your feline friend prefers, make sure your furniture suits them. For active kitties, offer lots of places to jump and climb. Move your sofa in jumping distance from the bookshelf, or even invest in some cat shelves.

For sleepy kitties, make sure they have a nice cosy corner to rest their weary head.

Speaking of comfy places to relax…

GIVE THEM A SUNNY VIEW OF THE OUTSIDE WORLD

Cats can spend hours upon hours resting in front of the window and looking out at the local wildlife.

Oh, the dream! Having a cosy window perch in a sunny spot is a great way to keep your cat comfortable and entertained. You could even position a bird feeder outside the window to attract some quality entertainment for your kitty.

A NICE PLACE TO SCRATCH

Scratching is a natural instinct for cats and gives them a way to relax their muscles, while also sharpening their claws. Instead of allowing them to scratch your skin to shreds, why not invest in a scratching post?

Make sure you get a scratching post your cat will actually use.

Having vertical and horizontal scratching posts is an excellent idea because your cat might like to use both, depending on their mood.

TREAT YOUR KITTY TO A NEW BED

Your cat probably spends more hours asleep than awake, so buying them a new bed will certainly make them feel like royalty. Treat your kitty to something ultra-plush or with a bit of coverage to make it extra snuggly.

UPGRADE THEIR THRONE (LITTER BOX)

We all know how particular cats can be when it comes to their litter box. Buying multiple litter boxes or even upgrading to a self-cleaning litter box is one sure-fire way to impress your furry friend.

Location of their new throne is key for building good toilet habits.

If their litter box is in a place they disapprove of, they might avoid using it. Make sure it’s kept in a private area, without too much noise or disturbance. Also keep kitty’s litter as far away from their food bowl as possible. Cats are nothing but class, so they don’t like to do their business near where they eat (I wouldn’t want to either).

BUY SOME NEW TOYS

Upgrade from that old ball of string, get your cat the toy of their dreams.

These days there are so many exciting options out there! Laser beams, scratching posts, mouse toys, what more can a pampered feline ask for? Cats are natural hunters so anything they can chase, pounce, leap on or swat is very a-paw-ling.

Don’t have endless amounts of cash to your kitty new toys every time they destroy an old one? Our next tip is for you!

ROTATE THEIR TOYS

Instead of forking out cash for new toys every couple of weeks, put some of your cats’ toys away and bring them back out in a month or so. Your feline friend won’t mind, especially if you marinate them in a jar of catnip while they’re in storage!

SPA DAY

Think spa days are just for humans? Think again!

Travelling groomers are so much more common these days, so why not book your kitty in for a trim, brush or full bath? This is sure to make your kitty feel regal, especially during major shedding seasons.

SERVE YOUR KITTY A FANCY FEAST

Not the canned cat food! Cook them something delicious and nutritious. Your kitty deserves the very best so we recommend choosing something full of flavour, while also providing plenty of fresh meat and veggies.

BUILD YOUR KITTY A CUSTOM-DESIGNED CATIO

Catio? What’s that? A Catio is an enclosed outdoor space that allows your kitty to safely explore the great outdoors. With options for hidy holes, artificial turf, a cat grass garden to nibble on, things to jump on, the possibilities are endless!
