Deck Inspo For Your Home

Decks are some of our absolute favourite projects to work on. Whether we are sanding back and breathing new life into an old, weathered deck, or building a brand new deck tailored to our clients’ unique lifestyle and designed to their specifications.

As part of our month-long celebration of the great Australian Deck, we’ve compiled a list of 7 incredible decks that has our creative juices flowing. We would love to have the opportunity to create some of these designs for our clients. In our professional these decks are the bees knees!

Take a look at some of our favourite decks from around the internet, and let us know what you think in the comment below. Did we miss an incredible deck design you love? We’d love to hear from you.

Timber Stairs With Built-In Planter Boxes

We love this blonde timber deck for a number of reasons. Firstly, the light colour with the white exterior is an attractive pairing. By far our favourite part of this deck, however, is the built in planters and long, wide stairs.

Built-in features like planter boxes are an attractive addition to your deck. Longer, wider stairs also provide a sleek appearance but are also practical for homeowners with mobility issues that might make typical stairs difficult to navigate.

White Decking Flush With Paving

We are absolutely in love with this use of decking! Squarepegs Handyman has had the privilege of completing a similar deck for one of our lovely clients in Merewether.

The white decking is so light and bright, we think it is perfect for the bright, sunny and warm weather we experience here in Australia. The light colour will weather well and will resist fading. It will also be cooler to walk on barefoot. Having the sunken decking that is flush with paving is also an attractive addition.

We just love it!

Combining decking with paving is a a great way to create a unique and functional look that is just that little bit different than utilising decking or paving by themselves.

Decking Pathways With Raised Platforms

We adore the use of decking to create walkways around an outdoor space. It’s a fantastic outside the square way to use decking in your outdoor living space. Your deck doesn’t have to be a singular platform extending off your home, and this is a great example of that.

This deck also includes raised platforms that would make the perfect place for planters and other outdoor landscaping features you might want to include in your outdoor living space.

Simple Hardwood Deck

Your deck doesn’t have to be complex or something off the beaten track. Simple hardwood decking, especially merbau decking, is an attractive and traditional choice that will add value and functionality to your home.

More than any other decking option, a traditional hardwood deck is the most common project Squarepegs Handyman has been fortunate enough to work on for our clients. We love working on these decks. They are ALWAYS a great option for your home and our advice would be not to discount a simple, straightforward hardwood deck for your home.

Small But Functional Decking

To be functional, and to add value to your home, your deck doesn’t have to be large elaborate or eccentric. Sometimes, the most simple options are the best choice and this can be the case with decks.

We love this simple and small, ground-level deck and especially love the unique and attractive lighting and seating choices that have been made here. Accessorising is always a great way to upgrade your deck and its functionality.

Incorperting Greenery In Decking

This deck seamlessly blends into the landscaping and outdoor scenery and we love it. The detail that has us absolutely chomping at the bit is the shrubbery around the stairs included with this deck. We think it is such an attractive and unique detail.

With many of the decks we are fortunate enough to work on, Squarepegs Handyman endeavours to seamlessly blend the deck we build with their existing landscaping and outdoor area. The effect is quite stunning and leaves our clients with a nature-inspired outdoor living space.

Sunken Fire Pit Seamlessly Blended With Decking

We saved the absolute best for last. This deck has us drooling and we are desperate to create something similar for one of our clients! How creative and what a great use of space.

With summer upon us, many of us aren’t thinking about evening fires, roasting marshmallows or keeping warm outdoors on cold winter nights. Still, an outdoor fire pit is an incredible option for almost any outdoor living space.
