Our Work: A Pool Pump Cover For Our Clients In Merewether

Our lovely clients in Merewether contacted us about a pool pump cover after seeing some of our previous work on Instagram. It is common for home owners to want to cover up unsightly pool pumps, garbage bins, or anything else that detracts from the aesthetic or their home, so this is something we do quite often.

Due to the nature of a pool pump there are a few things to consider. These include ventilation, access and protection from the elements.

A Custom Built Aluminium Pool Pump Cover For Our Clients In Merewether

Pool Pump Ventilation

Due to the chemicals, such as chlorine, used in swimming pool operation it is wise to allow some level of airflow into the structure. This prevents harmful and dangerous gases given off by the various chemicals from collecting inside the pool pump cover and creating the hazard of suffocation, poisoning, or in extreme cases, explosion.

Pool Pump Access

Pool pumps require several types of routine maintenance and have multiple parts that require adjusting or access to add chemicals. For this reason large openings and plenty of internal space to reach all required mechanisms is required.

Protecting Our Client’s Pool Pump From The Elements

More often than not the pool pump is located close to the pool itself, which means it is most likely out in the open. Protecting the delicate mechanisms from the sun and rain is important for the longevity of your pool pump. The chemicals used in operation should also be considered when choosing a material for the pool pump cover.

Aluminium Slatting Pool Pump Cover

Aluminium slatting is the perfect material for a pool pump cover because it covers the three points listed above by allowing ample ventilation, its light weight allows for large doors for access, and it is very resistant to rain, sun and chemicals. With the added benefit of never needing repainting, it’s the obvious choice. With the addition of a Colourbond roof to keep everything dry all the bases are covered.

Pool Pump Cover Design

This particular pool pump was located against a rendered concrete fence and right next to the glass panel pool fence itself. There was also a raised garden bed which did not have a section of pool fence. This was intentionally left out with the plan of the pool pump cover acting as this section of fence. For this reason the walls needed to be compliant with pool fencing regulations, which required the gaps in slatting be reduced down to 5mm, and the height raised to 1800mm. This was due to one side also being the property's external fence, which requires a pool fence of 1800mm rather than the standard height.

The colour chosen was surfmist to match the existing slat gate, and the support post from the pergola roof was incorporated into the design to gain extra internal space inside the cover. For maximum access the entire front panel was hinged to act as a large door, and make maintenance easy. The roofing was set to run over the concrete wall, and was capped so that no sharp edges were exposed.

The final result looks fantastic, and the clients were thrilled. The complete lack of maintenance on the aluminium slatting and colourbond roofing were a huge plus, as well as how the post was incorporated into the design.
